About Medical Grade Silicone

The material allowing the use of silicone for medicinal purposes was developed by a Hungarian chemical engineer who went on to produce different materials of varying hardness.

Main characteristics: A white, transparent material specially designed for medicinal use on the outside of the human body, that may be coloured and is highly tolerated by the skin. Placed on the injured body part the silicone covering takes on the temperature of the human body and feels like skin to the touch.

Use in Prosthetics

This material, if used for prosthetic purposes, can be readily shaped or moulded and is easy to work on in its raw state. Once cured, however, it becomes resistant while retaining its elasticity, and is therefore perfect for replacing any missing body part (hand prosthesis, metacarpal prosthesis, foot prosthesis, ear prosthesis, nose prosthesis, skin prosthesis, prosthesis for human body, body prosthesis). Wearing the silicon prosthesis, the patient is able to perform all those activities that able bodied people can, such as swimming, doing household chores, gripping, typing, running and lighter forms of sports.

The Silicone Technology

As a first step in the procedure I make a mould of the residual limb, as well as the opposite limb, and I prepare a plaster cast, which takes maximum 30 minutes. Then I make a skin tone sample. A test silicone prosthesis is produced on the basis of the plaster cast. If the cast fits the residual body part perfectly, I proceed to preparing the final silicone prosthesis.

The colour and aspect of the final silicone prosthesis is unique and a lifelike reproduction of your healthy original finger or upper or lower limb. Silicone fingers are complemented by acrylic nails which can be varnished, and even carry artificial nails. Typically, these are highly resistant to abrasion, easy to clean, and all in all simulate the live nail structure perfectly, both in material and to the touch.
